Although relatively younger than game publishers such as Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft and Xbox Yes has a rather long history spanning several decades. With several different commercially released game consoles, and many first- and third-party titles in each console’s respective game libraries, the series Xbox The control panel is really expansive. Now, as part of the platform’s 20th anniversary, Microsoft has done something quite different to celebrate the Xbox.

When the original Xbox console was released in 2001, it had several twists and turns. The design of the dashboard is sleek, the user interface has a more futuristic and remarkable aesthetic Duke controller still stands out as one of the most memorable video game controllers ever created. Xbox has come a long way since then, with the publisher celebrating its 20th anniversary this year through an interactive, online museum for fans of digital exploration.

On Twitter, Tom Warren, a senior editor for The Verge, pointed out that Microsoft has launched a website containing a digital museum for Xbox fans to interact with. The museum takes users through different aspects of Xbox history, from different consoles, to Xbox users’ personal history with the platform. There’s even a section of the museum dedicated to the top Xbox series Halo.

The digital museum has quite a bit of meat on its bones. It even allows users to physically navigate in 3D through a 3D character model, with settings similar to an actual museum. There are also various virtual models for users to interact with and admire, such as an original Xbox that can be climbed and an original Warthog are from Halo: Combat Evolved. Obviously a lot of thought and thought went into the construction of this interactive museum.

The fact that Microsoft created a digital Xbox museum instead of a physical museum makes complete sense for Microsoft. In many ways, a physical Xbox museum is a bit too unrealistic. Consider the ongoing effects of COVID-19, as well as Xbox fans living in different parts of the world, it would be very limited to have a physical museum for fans to visit.

Not to mention that a live digital museum coincides with the fact that Xbox is first and foremost a video game franchise. By creating a digital museum with user interaction, it not only celebrates Xbox’s 20th anniversary, but also celebrates players’ love and passion for video games. In any case, it will be interesting to see which direction Microsoft takes Xbox once Xbox Series X ran its course.
