“Meet Cute” on Peacock – A time-warped romantic comedy for the Hall of Fame

If you’re struggling to get through the week, we’ve got a little nugget of serotonin to help. You’re one day away from Friday, and if you’re ready to check it out Get to know Sweet Trailer around 400 times in a row, then it’s straight into the weekend. Yes, I did the math. Yes, I will watch the trailer 399 more times.

Why is the trailer for Get to know Sweet help you through the next 36 hours? Simple: It’s so, so cute and charming. Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson play two unhappy lovers – that should sell the rom-com by now. But the twist actually follows a similar path as another modern classic, about time: Sheila (Cuoco) has traveled back and forth through time and space to make Gary’s (Davidson) life perfect.

The pair both order an Old Fashioned at the beginning of the trailer. Then they say the same “Cheers, mate!” to the bartender. Coincidence? I do not think so.

Here’s the catch with Get to know Sweet: Unlike the lovers in about timeactually Sheila told Gary what she does. She journeys through his life to heal his trauma, forcing him to fall in love with her in the process. So in the end he will be the perfect, perfectly mentally stable boyfriend. Right? Nothing can go wrong.

With her tanning/time machine, Sheila travels several times a day Shaping Gary into the ideal New Yorker. They’re hard to come by – but it’s not that hard if you plan every minute, can protect them from becoming FBoys, and force them to text you back. But too much time travel can drive a man insane, and Gary begins to lose himself in Sheila’s stupidity.

Time-warping romantic comedies have garnered a lot of attention in recent years — probably because they’re just so damn charming. To about time came PalmSpringsand while it’s not a rom-com, the romantic scenes are in Everything everywhere at once are absolutely heartbreaking. That’s all to say: Get to know Sweet looks like a sweet addition to the stacked catalog of time-travelling romances.

Get to know Sweet premieres September 21 on Peacock.
