To combat vaccine hesitancy, de Blasio says New York City has tried a “good guy” approach of offering incentives, but now it’s time to resort to vaccine mandates .
A new poll from the Associated Press shows that 81% of unvaccinated Americans are definitely not or may not be willing to get vaccinated.
The Republican governor of Alabama, the state with the lowest vaccination rate at around 40%, has had harsh words as COVID cases soar.
“It’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated, not the ordinary people. It is the unvaccinated people that are letting us down,” said Governor Kay Ivey.
VACCIUM-PROTECTION OF COVID
In New York, 67.7% of adults statewide are fully immunized, but de Blasio says he believes we’ve reached the limit of a completely voluntary system.
“I urge every employer to do whatever form of trust you feel comfortable with as it will help us fight COVID, and if we can do that, we can actually come to life to the fullest. This is where I can call the ideological debate and everything else needs to be put aside,” he said Friday.
De Blasio has asked the city’s hospital and health clinic staff to get vaccinated or tested once a week, and he hinted that the mandate could be rolling out to more city employees soon. , like police officers and public school teachers.
New Yorkers who spoke to CBS2’s Ali Bauman had mixed opinions about possible missions.
Tom Guthrie, an Upper West Side resident, said: “I definitely think city employees should be required to get vaccinated.
“I would rather people decide to have that for themselves if they want to,” says Queens resident Jada Clinton.
“I think it’s a good idea to keep people safe, especially those who have more contact with people in their work environment,” said Manhattan resident Tony Lamour.
CORONA VIRUS PASSION
When asked about the idea of mandating the use of vaccines for indoor meals, as France is doing, de Blasio said, “I think it’s a direction that we need to take seriously. I think there’s a lot to be said about that.”
“I don’t think it’s mandatory,” said Patricio Alguilar, a resident of the Upper West Side.
“I think it’s fair because you choose if you want to have dinner, so if you want that advantage, you go get vaccinated,” another said.
The Police Benevolent Association states, “Vaccination is an individual medical decision that each member should make in consultation with his or her own physician.”
So far, the teachers union has yet to comment.
