Mayfield teacher sex charges

Editor’s Note: Previously aired video shows the moment the police arrested him for sex crimes

MAYFIELD, Ohio (WJW) – A grand jury indicted a Mayfield High school teacher on sex allegations involving 7 juvenile victims.

Investigators believe that Daniel Carlson contacted the female student through social networks and asked to release lewd photos.

Cuyahoga County prosecutors indicted Carlson on charges including unlawful use of a minor in material or performance directed at nudity as well as extortion and prostitution.

Highland Heights Police have led the investigation after Mayfield City School said a female student arrived first.

After that, more victims came forward.

Again, the indictment just filed now has seven juvenile victims. All are listed as female.

Carlson also served as a high school girls track and field coach.

NS I-Team recently showed you a body camera video about Carlson was arrested.

The video shows Carlson calm and relaxed as officers arrest him as he leaves the local hospital.

An officer can be heard saying, “We have an arrest warrant for you, OK, for lewdness with a minor. I’m sure you know what’s going on, OK? So you are under arrest up to this point…”

All Carlson did was nodded and said, “Yes. Yes.”

We learned that Highland Heights police seized electronics from Carlson including tablets, flash drives and computers as detectives searched for evidence.

We also reviewed the school’s personnel records.

One letter showed that Carlson had resigned “for personal reasons” as the investigation began. We see no complaints or warning signs in the record.

No one responded the day we arrived at his address, and his attorney was not available for comment.

Carlson will now go to Cuyahoga District Court to face a judge and begin defending himself.
