Matthew McConaughey Says He Won’t Run For Governor Of Texas
Ending months of speculation, actor Matthew McConaughey on Sunday said he would not run for governor of Texas.
In a three-minute video posted to social media, McConaughey said that although he has explored the possibility of running for office, it is “the path I am choosing not to take at the moment.”
“What have I learned? So many, so much. That is, we have some problems that need fixing. That our politics needs a new purpose. he said. “Politicians, good people, can get us where we need to go… but let’s be clear, they can’t do anything for us unless we choose to do it for ourselves.”
Instead, McConaughey said, he will “continue to work and invest the bonuses I earn by supporting the entrepreneurs, businesses, and foundations that I believe… are creating avenues for success.” everyone succeeds in life.”
A Dallas Morning News poll last week saw McConaughey defeat Republican Governor Greg Abbott in a head-to-head race and vote marginally better than Democrat Beto O’Rourke in a three-way race. He faces a December 13 deadline to announce his candidacy for the 2022 election.
The Oscar-winning McConaughey, known for his roles in films such as “Dazed and Confused,” “Dallas Buyers Club” and “Magic Mike,” does not claim to be partisan and has never held public office.
