NS Tampa Bay Rays Traded All-Star Midfielder Joey Wendle come Miami Marlins in exchange for promising midfielders Kameron Misner, Teams announced. Marlins . Designated Midfielder Lewis Brinson to make room on their 40-man roster for Wendle.
As noted in our continuum Live blog news and gossip, the Rays find themselves struggling on the list here with the CBA likely to expire on December 2 at midnight and be locked down. They agreed terms with the veteran pitcher to start Corey Kluber, but could not officially add him to the list of 40 – they are already in their 40s – until a position was removed. Rumors spread that the center operator Kevin Kiermaier and Wendle are both in the block. And now this transaction is clear for Kluber.
It was a nice move by the Marlins office led by Kim Ng as they continued their aggression. Within the past two days, the Marlins have added midfielder Avisaíl García, who expands the starting frontline. Sandy Alcantara, in exchange for the catcher Jacob Stallings and now traded for Wendle.
Wendle is a 31-year-old midfielder who is also left-handed. He’s mostly played second, third and short and is best suited for second base, though he has proven to be mostly good at third and commensurate in the short term. In 136 games last season, he scored .265 / .319 / .422 (110 .) OPS +) with 31 doubles, four triples, 11 masters, 54 RBIs, 73 runs, eight steals and 3.8 WINS. He refereed for two more seasons before becoming a free agency.
The Marlins’ offense still needs more work to match what looks like a young, brilliant rotation, but they’re making a lot of gains. Jazz Chisholm Last season had a blast of success at the age of 23 while Jesús Aguilar and Avisaíl García could have had mid-level success and now Wendle is added to the list. Jesús Sánchez and Brian De La Cruz also show promise in the long run.
At this rate, I wouldn’t expect the Marlins to be quiet until spring practice. They really intend to put the winner on the field soon.
As for the Rays’ return, Misner is the 23-year-old quarterback who was the 33rd overall pick in the University of Missouri’s 2019 draft. Last season between High-A and Double-A, he had a record of .253/.355/.433 with 29 doubles, 12 own goals and 26 steals in 102 games. He also played in the Arizona Fall League, scoring just 0.55 even though he added seven home players in just 78 hits while posting a base percentage of 0.373.
