Toronto opened the scoring at 3:49 of the second half when the Flames were caught jostling each other and Sandin eventually shot a puck past Markstrom.

But the lead was short-lived as Mangiapane received a backhand pass from Mikael Backlund and shot past Campbell to equalize 24 seconds later.

In the end, Calgary blew up the game with three goals in the span of less than three minutes.

At 13:03, Andersson dashed forward quickly and made a cross from the cross that was blocked by Hanifin, his defensive partner.

Thirty-two seconds later, it was Hanifin’s turn to take the lead. With William Nylander’s intervention in the box, Backlund won a subsequent encounter with Hanifin, who hit a pass for Kylington and his 40 yard shot sent the ball into the net.

At 15:54 with half of Saddledome’s power still active, Calgary made it 4-1 when Lindholm picked up the corner after receiving a pass from Johnny Gaudreau.

The third phase began as soon as the second game ended with Andersson becoming the third Flames defender to score, firing a 55-foot wrist shot past Campbell to take a four-goal lead.

Bunting’s goal at 5:06 ended the scoring. Set up by Auston Matthews, it extended Matthews’ streak to six games (six goals, seven assists).

The Leafs only had 11 strikers due to Wayne Simmonds returning to Toronto for personal reasons. Toronto then went down to 10 forwards when Ondrej Kase was leveled by a rough header from 6-foot-6-year-old defender Nikita Zadorov, who caught him by the shoulder, leaving Kase and his helmet he flies.

He continued down briefly before leaving the ice rink alone, but he went straight into the Leafs locker room and didn’t turn around.
