Man who smoked marijuana during Jan. 6 riots at Capitol gets 2 years probation

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man arrested in Virginia Beach after being spotted on video smoking marijuana in the US Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Eduardo Nicolas Alvear Gonzales had pleaded guilty Charges of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or property without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol property.

He also received 200 hours of community service, a $1,000 fine and was ordered to pay $500 in compensation.

The FBI says he can be seen in a YouTube video titled “Man smoking a doobie weed at capitol dome Donald Trump supporters.”

Authorities say Gonzalez was living in California while he was being arrested in Virginia Beach.

He was one of many people arrested in Hampton Roads in connection with January 6th. Others were Robert Keith Packer, who wore a “Camp Auschwitz” sweatshirtand Virginia Beach Charter Boat Captain Jacob Hiles. Hiles also received two years probation and Packer is due to be sentenced in April. Several others are still awaiting trial/plea and conviction.
