Mail carrier attacked in Cleveland

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Video released for FOX 8 I-Team shows what happened after the latest attack on a local postal worker.

We’ve unmasked robbers targeting the people who are processing your mail. So we are investigating the safety of those workers.

The latest incident happened last month near East 93rd Street and Yale Avenue in Cleveland. Police body camera video shows officers quickly getting justice for a mail carrier robbed in his postal truck.

“Put the gun to my head. And I just said, “I have weird kids, man,” the postman told the officers. “I went to a 180. I hit this curb. Then he pulled me out of the van.”

The video also shows officers patrolling and searching for the truck.

“We are on Yale. We saw the postman’s truck right in the middle of the street,” an official said.

Moments later, the police discovered the suspect. He runs. The police chased him. And, they found a gun in the weeds. The gun matched the description of the man who was robbed.

Just a few weeks ago we showed you a East Cleveland mail carrier shot in the arm. He said it looked like he was shot because of a road rage.

Late last year, we showed you a post office near Shaker Square that was hit by an armed robbery.

No one was arrested in those cases.

Last month, we also showed you a mail truck stolen in Bratenahl. The carrier was out to deliver the goods, and a thief jumped on the truck and left. Police in Euclid arrested him a short time later.

All of this led Team I to investigate the danger to your mail handlers.

Given the number of post offices and mail carriers nationwide, the agency considers the number of robberies to be very low, the US Postal Inspection Service said. However, nationally, the agency reported more than 500 assaults and threats in a year against postal workers.

In the latest case, the mail carrier told police he was trying to reason with the gunman who was stealing his truck.

“There is nothing here. That’s the end of my route,” the postal carrier said he told his attacker.

When police arrested the gunman, an officer asked him, “What are you doing here?”

The Cleveland Police Department began filing charges against Quentello Allen. The case will also be heard by a larger jury for impeachment. | Mail carrier attacked in Cleveland
