Magic: Collection will return to other old planes after Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty

In Magic: Gathering, each set’s new mechanics are designed to reflect the world in which the set takes place. Ravnica’s ten guild city-plane sets involve at least ten distinct mechanics that provide a representative gameplay style for each guild, while settings taking place in Greco-Roman Theros often feature bodies. show that world’s respect for mythical gods and heroes. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Wizards of the Coast chose to introduce so many new aircraft to Magic: Gathering classic. New world with new lore details helps it come up with innovative new mechanics that take advantage of this setting.
However, Magic: Gathering sometimes go back to the old plane. The last two main lines Magic the set has arrived Gothic plane of Innistrad, which Magic: Gathering have visited twice seperately before. Old settings can still inspire intriguing new mechanics as long as Wizards of the Coast creates strong new storylines that use the setting in new ways. There is no better example of that than early 2022 Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. This new series brings the game back to Kamigawa for the first time since 2005, and thanks to some drastic changes to the setting, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty sends a clear message about how old planes are still available. can contribute new ideas for Magic.
How Kamigawa ponders magic: Gathering
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty stands out from most series going back to the old plane because of how drastically Kamigawa has changed. Usually, planes go through at least a little change between visits, with protagonists from those worlds coming and going, but Kamigawa is completely different. What was once a world based on medieval Japanese history and culture, as well as Shinto mythology, is now partly a cyberpunk society in the distant future. Kamigawa’s technology has advanced greatly are from Magic: Gathering went there for the first time, but some parts of the plane still cling to the spiritual roots of the world. Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty aims to explore the tension between tradition and progress that every society experiences.
The return to Kamigawa is not remarkable just because it is old. The original three Kamigawa series are often considered low points in the Magic: GatheringIts history, suffers from severe balance issues and has too many weak cards for players’ tastes. As a result, the Kamigawa world was viewed negatively and Wizards of the Coast had no intention of changing it for many years. However, now, there was a lot of excitement around Kamigawa because of how drastic this is Magic: Gathering The plane has changed. Instead of abandoning Kamigawa forever, Magic is making it head, re-imagining its core gameplay ideas by re-imagining the plane itself.
If Wizards of the Coast wants to do more sets on older planes, it should change those planes as aggressively as it did for Kamigawa. Fans haven’t seen places like Alara and Lorwyn in years, so it wouldn’t be strange if there was some major social or magical upheaval during that time. Magic: Gathering can get bold new mechanics out of the old plane if the Wizards of the Coast first pass second in the lore of that world. It doesn’t need to rewrite them from scratch; it simply considers the central theme of each of those planes, then introduces new protagonists or establishes contrasts with the original concept of the plane. With the help of that contrast, it is possible to use old mechanics in surprising new ways, thus possibly inspiring entirely new mechanics.
Magic Exploration: Collected World
The new plane is certainly useful in finding new mechanisms that could redefine the way Magic: Gathering drama. Strixhaven’s School of Magicfor example, provided that some new features are available on versions and witches through the keywords Magic and Learn. However, older aircraft can also contribute. Returning to Alara can help discover how the territories of MagicThe five colors have changed since the original Alara set, showing how far the game has progressed. Yes or no Magic returning to old planes in the near future, Kamigawa’s new applications for ninjutsu and divergence provide compelling evidence for the value of tracing Magic: Gatheringstep back to the past.
Magic: Gathering now available exotically and digitally through Magic: Collecting Arena. The Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty expansion pack releases on February 18, 2022.
