Made: Home for the Holidays on Hulu, where a team creates a life-sized home out of candy

In Candified: Home for the holidays, now streaming on Hulu, “Candy Queen” Jackie Sorkin and her team of candy artists take candy creations to the next level. With a tight deadline of six weeks, the team set out to create a life-size holiday candy house in hopes of impressing an investor who wanted to create a candy-themed hotel. Is this series as sweet as it seems? Or will it hurt your teeth?

Opening scene: Scenes of sugar-coated candies on the table.

Gist: “Candy Queen” Jackie Sorkin has sweet, sweet dreams; she creates giant confectionery products out of candies that are beyond what most of us can imagine. She’s just received some big news and can’t wait to share it with her team of candy artists. Sorkin is in contact with a major potential investor and candy lover who is interested in creating a candy hotel in Nashville. To round out the deal, Sorkin wanted to create a fully functional, life-sized holiday candy house. All surfaces, accessories and furniture need to “candles up”. The chase? The team only had 6 weeks left to solve this problem, a deadline that surprised many people. But if anyone can do it, it’s the team of “assholes”.

They started with the children’s bedroom, what Sorkin hoped would be a “Winter Wonderland Extravaganza”. There will be a polar bear bed made of marshmallows (complete with cotton candy pillows and sourdough duvets), a candy bookshelf and a sugar cube igloo that opens to a marshmallow pit. And we can’t forget the giant candy penguin will also appear in the room. Each member of the team was assigned a different composition in the room, and they all started working, starring in the little dramas we know and love from these series. Bed and nightstand merge slowly but surely together, but tragedy strikes when the majestic penguin loses his head when they knock him down on the table. Can our team of candy connoisseurs complete this crazy project in just 6 weeks? Only time will tell!

What shows will it remind you of? Candlesticks may remind you of series like Holiday Home Makeup, Sugar Rush Christmas, Zumbo’s Just Desserts, and even Full bloom.

Our Take: I’m a jerk (pun intended) for these TLC-vibes; Throw a bunch of people into the kitchen or workshop and see what magic they can create, and cast televised magic in the process. That’s exactly what Candified: Home for the holidays , even if it looks like it’s intentionally creating a workplace drama we crave between Gen and D.Micah. All the members of this crazy candy team are absolutely adorable – it really feels like a family, all the silly bickering and occasional tears. Sorkin has a quirky, endearing quality to her that makes her the perfect fearless leader for this team of creative candy artists.

Candlesticks It doesn’t try to do anything particularly new with its format, that’s why it’s very likely to please viewers of baking contests, home makeover shows and shows. same candy maker. There’s not much to it; just create something brilliant and delectable. With programs like Holiday Home Makeup, it’s thrilling to watch the spaces come to life with all the magic of the holidays, but Candlesticks there’s that extra layer of sweetness that brings everything to the top. Is it a bit silly? Sure. But these massive, monumental works of art handcrafted by candy lovers add an element of awe that you can hardly find anywhere else. It is just delicious.

Gender and Skin: Not available.

Farewell shot: The team gasped in awe at their candy house venue as we got a glimpse of what lay ahead.

Sleeper Star: D.Micah is a born reality TV star, with a big personality and relentless entertainment. He’s not afraid to publicize his opinions on how Gen runs things, and he knows his worth; he left corporate America to join this team, so he is fully prepared to surpass the others and make his job as great as possible. “Daddy has not only a pretty face, but a brain, honey,” D.Micah told us as he continued to do things his way. You really couldn’t ask for a more memorable character in this type of show.

Most Pilot-y routes: There’s a lot of fun in this first episode as we get to know everyone, including cheesy quotes from Chris, Jackie’s husband like “she’s the boss. She is the Candy Queen. She never gives up.”

Our call: INSTRUCTIONS IT. Candified: Home for the holidays takes a unique spin on the dessert reality show, showcasing truly amazing confectionery creations and what it takes to make this fascinating miracle a reality.
