Love and Thunder trailer takes center stage on Chris Hemsworth’s patootie

Is that the Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer or the first look at Bridgeton Season 3? When we see a man stripped down to his shanties, we’re not programmed to think “Marvel movie.” Leave it to director Taika Waititi to change the game, because this is new Thor: Love and Thunder Teaser is a complete 180 from the MCU’s heinless past.

But we’re catching up here, because the stripped down (and sadly blurry) Chris Hemsworth doesn’t show up until the very end of the trailer. We’ve glazed over the return of Waititi’s lovable Korg, the introduction of Christian Bale’s Voldemort-looking villain, and, greatest gift of all, Jane, aka goddess Natalie Portman. Literally – she is now a full deity.

Which has become a problem since Bale’s “Gorr the God Butcher” has entered the arena to assassinate every deity he can get his hands on: “All the gods will die,” he proclaims for safety. Thor and ex-girlfriend Jane need to fly those sparks into something of greater electrical energy if they’re going to get out of this one alive.

As with most Marvel films, there are a few familiar faces in the trailer. While not really in this new look, the Guardians of the Galaxy will be back, at least for a while. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) also joins Jane and Thor in the epic quest against the God Butcher – that name will never grow old. Who else? Matt Damon, Sam Neill and Chris’ brother Luke Hemsworth will return Thor: Ragnarokto perform another Shakespearean play as “Loki”, “Odin” and “Thor”.

In Thor’s final screen appearance – 2019 never ends Avengers: Endgame– Marvel was criticized for its portrayal of the character, who fell into a deep depression thanks to his failures Avengers: Infinity War. Thor was faced with big jokes, teased for his binge eating, and constant taunting from his much more muscular teammates.

Now in Thor: Love and Thunder, Marvel seems to be cleaning the board. Thor goes from “Dad Bod to God Bod,” says Korg in the trailer, while the god of thunder trains in a mossy lair with giant chains. Pretty soon Thor is back in full muscular action – butt and all. But was that enough to make up for Marvel’s mistakes?

return from Thor: Ragnarok is director Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. love and thunder will be Marvel’s first film since this month Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madnessand will debut as new episodes of Marvel TV shows like Mrs. Miracle and She Hulk begin to fall on Disney+. This is a heckuva Marvel-packed summer.

Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theaters on July 8th.
