Louis Vuitton limited to California with next yacht show – WWD

Nicolas Ghesquière is dreaming in California: Louis VuittonThe women’s collection’s artistic director will visit the Golden State on May 12 to present the French fashion house’s 2023 yacht collection.

It’s the latest sign of a strong return to fashion shows to come amid the coronavirus pandemic, with Chanel, Emilio Pucci, Alexander McQueen and Gucci among European brands planning to show outside the major fashion capitals in the coming months.

Vuitton says it will reveal the city and location of its yacht display at a later date, noting that it “will continue its architectural journey showcasing yacht collections at different locations.” exclusive venue with distinctive design and worldwide fame.”

Ghesquière often chooses an architectural wonder as the transport backdrop. Yacht shows were held at the splendid Bob Hope Estate in Palm Springs, California, by John Lautner; Brazil’s MAC Niterói by Oscar Niemeyer; Ieoh Ming Pei’s Miho Museum of Kyoto by Ieoh Ming Pei; Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul de Vence by Josep Lluís Sert, and the TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport in New York by Eero Saarinen.

Picking the Hollywood home state for his latest runway show will also attract a stellar front row seat. Famous Vuitton ambassadors include actresses Alicia Vikander, HoYeon Jung, Léa Seydoux, Emma Stone and Jennifer Connelly.

Like many brands adapting to restrictions amid the COVID-19 wave, Vuitton sometimes has to substitute digital solutions for wearables on the live show floor. Its 2021 yacht collection was photographed at Ghesquière’s studio at LV’s headquarters in Paris, while yacht show 2022 was live from a bridge-like monument in Paris by the late Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan called Ax Majeur.

Cruise represents the primary distribution for high-end brands as long-selling collections span multiple seasons and often exclusive campaigns and further distribution through pop-up stores.
