London, Ont. Man charged with hit-and-run attack on cyclist from mid-August – London

Police have filed charges over a hit and run south of London, Ontario that has upset the city’s cycling community.

It was around 9am on August 14 when rescue workers responded to a collision between two cyclists and a vehicle near White Oak Road and Harry White Drive. Both cyclists were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver reportedly failed to stay at the scene, police said.

Shortly after, Randy Van Puyenbroek, one of the two cyclists involved in the crash, told Global News he suffered “a broken collarbone, a pretty big bruise and a kind of road rash.”

“My friend landed more face first, I mean his helmet really saved him I think. He has a broken cheekbone.”

On Friday, just over a month after investigators asked the public for help and released a description of the truck believed to be involved in the crash, police announced charges had been filed.

A 67-year-old London man has been charged with four offenses including driving dangerously and causing bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene causing bodily harm.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on October 31.
