LIV Golf shouldn’t hurt the PGA Tour 2K23 roster

When PGA Tour 2K23 launches in October, the HB Studios team may have to make tough decisions about their roster. LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have been locked in intense off-course drama since LIV Golf debuted in 2022. The conflict could spill over into video game golf and affect players, however PGA Tour 2K23 will probably not be affected at startup.

Financially backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, LIV Golf has lured many prominent names away from the PGA Tour with huge signing bonuses and larger tournament prize pools, as well as a shorter schedule. Phil Mickelson, for example, was reportedly offered $200 million to join LIV Golf and his comments explaining the decision have been controversial. The PGA Tour Commissioner has responded to the new competition by banning LIV golf pros from PGA events, leaving many questions about what the rosters look like PGA Tour 2K23 and EA Sports PGA Tour will be affected.

How LIV Golf could impact the PGA Tour 2K23 roster

HB Studios escaped all the hard choices PGA Tour 2K23 List at launch as none of the pros included in the original list signed with LIV Golf. That doesn’t mean things are going to change as there seem to be more defectors to LIV Golf on a monthly basis. Some were big names like 2022 Players’ Championship winner Cameron Smith just signed with LIV Golf. The biggest question for PGA Tour 2K23 is whether it removes anyone from their roster who will sign with LIV Golf in the future. The most recognizable name in golf and PGA Tour 2K22 Cover athlete Tiger Woods reportedly turned down an offer of between $700 million and $800 million to join LIV Golf earlier this year. The current squad of PGA Tour 2K23 consists:

  • Tiger Woods
  • JustinThomas
  • Xander Shovel
  • Tony Finau
  • Lexi Thompson
  • Lydia Ko
  • Brooke Henderson
  • Wall Zatoris
  • Jon Rahm
  • Collin Morikawa
  • Ricky Fowler
  • JustinRose

Most have been fierce supporters of the PGA Tour since the controversy began. LIV Golf also doesn’t currently feature women’s competitions, so pros like Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko won’t be leaving any time soon, which is good given both sides PGA Tour 2K23 and EA Sports PGA Tour added Women’s Golf in this latest edition. Still, HB Studios and EA need to have a plan when a pro featured in their game leaves the PGA Tour for a rival.

The plan of PGA 2K23 when a golfer joins LIV Golf

Earlier this month, a PGA Tour 2K23 The rep told GameSpot that there are no plans to cut professionals from the roster. “With the changing landscape of professional golf and the timelines of our development of the game, there will be players who were once active on the PGA Tour and will remain in the game,” they said. The promise of stability in PGA Tour 2K23 is positive for the franchise, which will compete with some of the most anticipated sports games of the year.

However, both HB Studios and EA must decide what to do with DLC golfers who may leave the PGA Tour. 2K Sports has announced that there will be expansions for PGA Tour 2K23, and while HB Studios is yet to share details on what these expansions look like, it’s possible they’re waiting as long as possible to respond to LIV Golf signers. EA Sports Spring 2023 release date PGA Tour means they don’t have to commit to anything in terms of a roster just yet, but PGA Tour 2K23 Having to make decisions sooner when talent leaves the company.

PGA Tour 2K23 Slated for release on October 14th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
