Libs of TikTok says it was banned from Facebook after misinformation about Boston Children’s Hospital’s Trans-Care program

The account known as Libs of TikTok revealed to its 1.3million Twitter followers on Wednesday night that Meta has permanently suspended its Facebook page for no reason. In a screenshot shared in the tweet, Facebook had told Libs of TikTok that it was on hold because it “didn’t meet our community standards.”

The page’s takedown comes nearly a week after Libs of TikTok posted a false claim about gender-affirming surgery on its social media pages, prompting an ongoing campaign of right-wing harassment at a leading New England children’s hospital.

“They suspended our account and we immediately appealed. Within 2 minutes they replied that we are banned forever,” Libs from TikTok’s Twitter account grumbled. “I am sure we received a full and fair assessment.”

The page appeared to have been deactivated but was still visible on Facebook as of Wednesday evening. A request for comment sent to Facebook’s press office was not immediately answered. A later tweet from the Libs of TikTok account confirmed, “Our page is back on Facebook but we’re still banned and were last told it was permanent.”

It was further claimed that it was “maybe just a ‘mistake'” on Facebook’s page.

Boston Children’s Hospital, the facility unwittingly dragged into the maelstrom provoked by conservative influencers like Libs of TikTok this week, is leading the first transgender health program for pediatric and adolescent patients in the United States. Established in 2007, the Gender Multispeciality Service program provides gender-affirming care to people ages 3 to 25. According to its website, it has treated more than 1,000 families.

On Aug. 11, Libs of TikTok’s Twitter, operated by Brooklyn real estate agent Chaya Raichik, posted a video clip from Boston Children’s Hospital about gender-affirming hysterectomies — or the removal of the uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes — and claimed that the institution offered those procedures “young girls”. The account followed up its initial allegation with more than a dozen inflammatory tweets and retweets verifying the hospital’s name and accusing it of mutilating children.

In a Tuesday newsletter, Libs of TikTok outraged that the hospital “supports the neutering of children and I have evidence,” adding that it has “a full range of juvenile neutering and mutilation options to choose from.”

“All of this came to light last week,” the author continued, “so I’ve helped spread the horrors of what doctors are doing among confused young people.”

The account’s claims were quickly debunked by fact-checking groups including PolitiFact and Lead Stories, who pointed out that nowhere in the initial “33-second video” was this the case [Boston Children’s Hospital] suggest that the procedure be offered to children,” and that the program requires patients to be at least 18 years of age to consent to a hysterectomy. Libs of TikTok’s false claim, PolitiFact noted, “appeared to rely on the hospital having ‘kids’ in its name.”

Boston Children’s itself denied in a statement Tuesday that it has ever performed or would ever perform a gender-affirming hysterectomy on an underage patient. “All genital surgeries are performed only on patients 18 years and older,” according to the Center for Gender Surgery’s website.

But the baseless claims have already been reinforced by other far-right figures, such as former Trump adviser Stephen Miller, who tweeted: “This is outrageous. How can someone involved in this still have a medical license? Conservative websites like The Daily Caller and The Gateway Pandit also added fuel to the fire by churning out articles and presenting the false accusations as fact.

Within days, Boston Children’s Hospital was engulfed in an avalanche of “hostile internet activity, phone calls and harassing emails,” it said Tuesday, “including threats of violence against our clinicians and staff.”

Several such violent threats were later uncovered by reporters. “It’s long past time to start executing these ‘doctors,'” wrote a pro-Trump forum poster, according to Vice News.

“Demons like these don’t deserve to breathe! Crimes against humanity = DEATH,” said one Telegram user alongside a link to an article mimicking the hysterectomy claims.

Boston Children’s continued in its statement, “We strongly condemn these attacks and reject the misrepresentation on which they are based.” The facility said it is working with law enforcement to protect its employees and the community, and is “proud to host the first transgender health program for children and adolescents in the United States.”

CP Hoffman, Senior Policy Counsel at the National Center for Transgender Equality, narrates The Washington Post on Tuesday that while the ignited anti-trans rhetoric might make it more scary for patients to seek gender-affirming treatment, they should not be discouraged or put off. “The potential joy of being able to live as your true self is worth it,” they added.

Libs of TikTok had nearly 40,000 followers on Facebook prior to its suspension. The account was previously suspended from Instagram, also owned by Meta, in May.

As of Wednesday evening, all of Libs of TikTok’s bogus and anti-trans Twitter activity was still accessible online. A Twitter spokesman told NBC News Tuesday that the matter was being looked into.

This was announced by the Boston police post that detectives had launched an investigation into the harassment campaign but refused to provide details.
