Based on Gloria Johnson, a left-wing Democratic representative from Tennessee, chanted “Let’s Go Brandon“The equivalent of burning the American flag. That’s right; According to her, a fun song that pokes fun at both the lying media and the Biden Administration is like carrying the torch into Old Glory.
Her comment was made on Twitter as a response to another tweet aimed at the song “Let’s Go Brandon”:
She followed up that tweet with a line later noting that both flag burning and LGBT chants are “protected speech” and that her comments are solely her opinion, not “lawful conduct”. She also casually adds “reading is fundamental,” without any context.
Reading is basic. That’s not legal behavior, it’s one person’s opinion. And as a few are smart enough to understand – both are protected speech.

As Daily Caller’s Notes, the song “Let’s Go Brandon” is a hugely popular song, having been heard at most public events and even appearing on clothing items and in rap songs:
The phrase, “Let’s Go Brandon” became a trend throughout the United States and is often celebrated for sports and is different event. The hymn is less obscene version of “F**k Joe Biden” and starts after a NASCAR race in which NBC reporter Kelli Stavast appeared to believe fans were cheering for racer Brandon Brown.
So in terms of how it is perceived by the public, this is against flag burning. For example, a 2006 Gallup Poll shows that Americans generally support a Constitutional Amendment that would make flag burning illegal. And that was at a time when anti-Iraq sentiment was at its peak, so it’s hard to say that any moment that is joking or highly patriotic can move people towards wanting a ban on flag burning.
No such modification is proposed that would make the saying “Let’s Go Brandon” illegal. Instead, more and more people are adopting it, often seeing it as a fun form of protest against both Biden and the media.
So, although Rep. Johnson is right that both are free-speakers, there is a big difference in the treatment between the two. One is standing on the edge of what is legal and being viewed negatively
Many on Twitter noted the absurdity, hypocrisy, and potential dictatorship of Representative Johnson’s comparison:
Comical. It is free speech regarding the incompetence of the president, who happens to have your support this time.

And, as the last tweet notes, there’s a big difference between the two forms of protected speech, one that Johnson doesn’t discuss. In general, burning flags shows disrespect for America. Commonly seen in anti-American protests everywhere from left-wing rallies in the US to IRGC-organized rallies in Iran, the act of burning the flag is intended to show disrespect towards the US and values that this country stands for.
The song “Let’s Go Brandon” is far from it. Far from being an attack on Americans and her values, it was a cry of protest against Biden’s incompetence and the media’s attempt to cover for him.
That difference in dynamics is something that Rep. Johnson is trying to bypass by connecting the two, and it’s an important one.
