Carmelo Anthony back to Madison Square Garden for the first time – and only – this season when Los Angeles Lakers undertake New York Knicks Third night. But unlike in previous years when he returned to play at MSG against a struggling Knicks team, he will line up across from a team about to enter the playoffs and try to replicate that success in this season.
Despite starting the season 9-8, leaving them ninth in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks are still considered playoff contenders, and Anthony says New York team president Leon Rose deserves it. deserves more credit for that.

“It’s very hard to step in and do what they’re doing, what they’ve started, what they’ve created until starting from scratch” Anthony said, via SNY. “When I say it, it’s about getting things done, cleaning things up, bringing in the right people. But not doing it in a big way, not doing it. [by] take advantage of power. It’s just coming, talking to people, getting to know people, understanding people, understanding what happened before and being able to clean up and build on that. I think people need to talk about that more. It was a very difficult task for someone who was an agent before becoming president of the New York Knicks. It’s a big task so I’ll take my hat off to those people for what they’ve accomplished, what they’ve established so far. “
The Knicks hired Rose in March 2020. In the 20 months since being named team president, they’ve gone from a 21-winning team when he took on the role to finding immediate success into the following year and finished with a score of 41-31. He brought in Tom Thibodeau as the next head coach, who then turned around and won Coach of the Year in his first year. He coached the Knicks in their first playoff game since Anthony wore the blue and orange jersey in 2013.
Last season, Rose actively improved on that success from last season by signing a contract Kemba Walker into an extremely cheap transaction once he is traded and then redeemed. He also brought Derrick Rose, who was once New York’s most effective bench player and signed Julius Randle extended a friendly with his teammates before he is eligible for a hefty salary this coming summer. While the Knicks have had an unstable start to the season, the past two years have been much better than the previous seven seasons combined. That’s because of the decisions Rose is making in the main office when it comes to squad building and coach recruitment.
So when Anthony, who was once represented by Rose, said that Rose deserves more credit for what he’s done with this franchise, he’s not wrong. The next step would be to show that last season was not a fluke and that the Knicks can continue to be relevant and competitive in the league. If the past 20 months are any indication, it’s not a problem for Rose and the Knicks.
