Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva released a statement on Friday saying that his department, which he describes as “underfunded/underfunded,” will not be carrying out mask-wearing duties in the new home. reinstatement took effect at midnight on Saturday night.
“Forcing people who have been vaccinated and those who have contracted COVID-19 to wear masks indoors is not supported by science,” Villanueva Police Chief Villanueva said in a strong statement. said in its strong statement, adding that the mission “contradicts guidance from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “
The sheriff opposed the “Defund” movement and the LA County Board of Supervisors over departmental funding in his statement.
“The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has the authority to enforce the order, but the underfunded/shortage Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will not utilize our limited resources and instead request asking for voluntary compliance,” he wrote. Villanueva has clashed with the board over vandalism on several occasions, and last year said it had succumbed to the “crowd” following a vote in June to cut police funding throughout the county.
Villanueva concluded by suggesting that the county does a better job and offers a more affordable and viable solution to what local health officials describe as “significant community transmission” of the virus. Covid in the county.
“We encourage DPH to work with the Board of Supervisors and law enforcement to establish achievable and science-backed mandates,” he wrote.
At least one county supervisor has publicly agreed that the newly reinstated mask mission may not be of real use in the area.
I am concerned about the increasing cases, but I do not believe that the masking mandate will help efforts to increase the effectiveness of vaccines and force unvaccinated populations to be vaccinated. LA County should remain aligned with the State instead of creating confusion and disagreement at the local level.
