“A crew of four to six people is required to assemble the mortar frames. And then it takes quite a long time to load them with the pyrotechnics, the fireworks,” said Royer, pausing from pounding nails on the shelves.

The crew worked hard from noon on Canada Day, assembling the racks with the mortar barrels and fixing everything.

Scattered around the site at Point Frederick were boxes upon boxes of firecrackers.

Royer says his favorites are those who make the loudest noises.

The cost of the entire spectacle is in the thousands of dollars paid for by the city.

He says the entire process takes more than eight hours to set up and the whole show happens in just minutes, but it’s worth every second.
