Keith Urban joined others in a pre-recorded performance of John Lennon’s classic play “Imagine” during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Keith shared a video clip of him talking about the song on his Instagram. In the video, Keith says of the iconic song, “This is one of those songs that feels like it’s always been there, like a spiritual classical piece. It’s more of a hymn than a song, you know? “
He added, “What lyrics stand out to me in the song? Aw, just people from start to finish. It’s a great song! “
Urban then sings the line, “’You have to say I’m a dreamer,’ which is an extremely powerful line for me. The real definition of optimism and hope right in that one line. “
The clip ends with Keith saying, “Even if you don’t speak English and you don’t know what’s being said in ‘Imagine’, you can still feel the song.”
Based on Related press, Urban joined John Legend and a bunch of singers to perform the song at the opening ceremony.
Lennon once said, “We weren’t the first to say ‘Imagine no nation’ or ‘Give peace a chance,’ but we are carrying that torch, like the Olympic torch , hand to hand, to each other, to each country, to each generation. And that is our job.”
