The Labor leader is investigated by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner
Sir Keir Starmer is under investigation by Parliament’s Commissioner for Standards for possible violations of the Rules on Revenue and Gifts.
The first item examined is as follows: “Registration of interests under Category 1 of the Guide to the Regulations (Employment and Income)” and the second is as follows: “Registration of interests under Category 3 of the Guide to the Regulations (Gifts, Favors and hospitality from UK sources).”
Kathryn Stone, who is conducting the inquiry that began Wednesday (June 8), examined the registration of interests in the Employment and Income section.
A second matter under investigation is a possible breach of the section on Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality from UK Sources.
What did Sir Keir say?
Sir Keir has insisted he is confident he has not broken the rules.
Visiting Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Monday, the Labor leader told broadcasters the allegations came as no surprise.
He said: “My office is looking into this and will respond in due course.”
When asked if he was sure he hadn’t done anything wrong, he said, “Absolutely confident, there’s no problem here.”
