Kakao Games overtakes ArcheAge, lays out plans for ArcheAge’s new untrained business model

With Gamigo give up ArcheAge publishing rights to Kakao Games, the new Western publisher took the time to map out their plans for a “premium” version of the game, ArcheAge Unchained. Kakao says it will be making changes to Unchained’s business model, which has gone from bad to worse since the buy-to-play version first launched two years ago.
Kakao says that it will move the game to a monthly subscription model and will remove the paid DLCs. They will also clear the cash shop of all pay-to-win items and will only sell cosmetic items.
“To eliminate the possibility of in-game power-ups with real-life currency, we opted for a monthly subscription. Many previously paid benefits and Market-only items are automatically included for free or obtained through in-game methods with Manastorm Crystals. This gives even more value to the subscription. Also, any paid items will be purely cosmetic. ”
The Patrons system will be merged into the monthly subscription while the ArchePass system will remain but will only be purchasable using Loyalty Tokens which can be earned as login rewards.
“We believe these changes represent the right direction for the vision many of you have had for ArcheAge: Unchained and will contribute to a more level playing field between new players and players. experienced players,” said Kakao.
Monthly subscriptions will start at $9.99 with discounts available for longer plans. Details can be found on New ArcheAge official website.
