K0nfig explains why Gla1ve is AWPing for Astralis instead of Lucky

The revamped Astralis roster has impressed many with their performance at BLAST Premier: Fall Finals 2021. New players Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke and Benjamin “blame F” Bremer has only made positive additions to the team so far. However, one doubt that troubled most people was the fact that Philip “Lucky” Ewald didn’t swing the AWP. Instead, it was the caller Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander, who mainly plays with weapons.

While the strategy played well for Astralis in their opening game against Ninjas in Pajamas, the role swap wasn’t particularly ideal when they were up against Vitality. Talking about this role change in a post-match interview, k0nfig explained why Lucky was holding positions with a rifle instead of playing more comfortably with the AWP.

It was a strange sight to see gla1ve organize the corners and play aggressively against the big green, while also managing the new Astralis roster. It definitely helped the new members, k0nfig and bla bla shoot all the turrets. However, Lucky’s performance is a big question mark as he mainly acts as an anchor, deep inside rifle locations.

Fans have been very confused with these role changes, especially when Lucky plays on the rifle as he was originally included in the roster as a dedicated AWPer. The 18-year-old was supposed to take on the responsibility of playing with the AD carry with the vision and excelling at it, but this new Astralis squad seems to be heading in an entirely different direction.

Explaining the situation in a post-match interview, k0nfig explains why Lucky isn’t one to run around with AWP:

The explanation above given by k0nfig may not provide substantial reasoning behind the role swap, but it certainly gave us some insight into the direction Astralis is headed when using AWP.

It will mostly be in gla1ve’s hands with Lucky picking it up occasionally. In addition, Lucky is likely to be the mainstay of the site along with k0nfig, who will play more freely and vigorously. Only time will tell what the ticket price of this setup will be as fans are yet to be sold on it.
