Jordan Klepper confronts unsuspecting Trumpers with Jan. 6 hearing clips

One of the biggest questions surrounding the committee’s hearings on Jan. 6 this month is whether Donald Trump’s most staunch supporters would even tune in, let alone openly see him in a new light. Only The daily News‘s Jordan Klepper came up with the idea of bringing the hearings to them.

In his latest update from MAGA country, Klepper traveled to a Trump rally in Mississippi, first to find out if anyone waiting to get in had been following the hearings, then played them some of the most damning clips on an iPad and shut up see what they made of it.

Not surprisingly, he couldn’t find anyone to watch the proceedings, and that included a woman wearing a red Trump visor, who called for an “investigation” to prove her theory that Nancy Pelosi was behind the riot.

Another young couple didn’t even know what Klepper was talking about when he mentioned January 6th. “Election day?” one of them asked. The term “insurgency” seemed similarly unfamiliar to them.

Klepper first showed Trump supporters the clip of Trump’s former Attorney General Bill Barr calling claims of a stolen election “bullshit.” Their only explanation for his decision to “turn on” Trump is that he was paid to lie.

He then asked the same women who knew nothing about January 6 if they “trust” Ivanka Trump. When they said yes, he showed them the video in which she agreed with Barr’s assessment. After slowly explaining to them what they had just seen, they just weren’t willing – or able – to see the “Big Lie” for what it was.

“That doesn’t look like her at all,” answered another man. “What do the clones have out there these days? That could be a clone!”

“It’s almost like you’re confronted with it and your brain does somersaults to find out there must be another reason!” Klepper answered with a laugh.
