Kennedy Center Honors will return this December with an outstandingly honored class. Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, Founder of Motown Record Berry Gordy, Saturday night live creator Lorne Michaels, entertainer Bette Midler, and bass-baritone Justino Díaz will be performing at this year’s ceremony.
This year’s class of honorees will also be part of getting the Kennedy Center back on schedule for the December ceremony. Due to Covid-19, the 2020 ceremony has been postponed to May and features a series of indoor and outdoor events spanning a few days. The 2021 ceremony will return to the Kennedy Center Opera House on December 5.
“After the trials and heartaches of the past several months, and as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Center, dare I add that we are prepared to have a ‘party that ends all parties’. in DC on December 5, endorsing these extraordinary people. and welcome audiences back to our campus,” Kennedy Center president Deborah Rutter said in a statement.
The 2020 recipients include Debbie Allen, Garth Brooks, Joan Baez, Dick Van Dyke and Midori.
