Joe Burrow of the Bengals is working to help Ohio area workers realize their career potential

Joe Burrow from Athens, a working-class city located in Southeast Ohio. Burrow has a lot of pride in his hometown, which is where he saw the 2020 draft when he was named the #1 overall pick.

That pride is one of the reasons why Burrow has partnered with LevelUp GRIT Ohio, a nonprofit whose goal is to help put local workers in high-demand, high-growth jobs. According to Burrow, the program “brings together local employers, career coaches and training providers to help displaced workers return to better jobs as quickly as possible.” the better.”

“The people in my hometown are really second to none,” says Burrow. “There are the hardest working people in the country.… The people there have what it takes to take their lives to the next level.

“I’m excited to see these new opportunities for people in Ohio who might not have had those opportunities before, because there’s a world of opportunity waiting for them.”

The GRIT project is working to build a “high-demand workforce and stimulate economic growth through public and private partnerships.” The program, which includes both students and adults, begins with a career assessment and one-on-one coaching session with a career professional. From there, a plan was laid out.

“You can only go so far on your own,” says Burrow. “You can take the steps on your own, but you can’t level up without a great team around you.”

Burrow says his work ethic is one of the main reasons for his success. After a prolific preparatory career at Athens High School, Burrow threw fewer than 40 passes in three years at Ohio State. After receiving his degree, Burrow moved to LSU, where in 2019 he led the Tigers to an undefeated season and a national championship.

Burrow has gone on to take success to the next level. After missing the second half of his rookie season with a knee injury, Burrow took the lead Bengali to start this season 5-2. And after two consecutive defeats Jet plane and Brown, Burrow is hoping to get Cincinnati back into the winners’ column with last Sunday’s win Raiders, another 5-4 team is going through consecutive losses.

While it wasn’t always easy, Burrow fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a NFL midfield start. Through his work with LevelUp, he hopes that his fellow Ohioans can realize their own career aspirations.

“One thing about training is that you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to grow,” says Burrow. “You just have to stick your nose in the whetstone. Deep down, you know if you’re getting the job done, everything’s going to be okay.”
