Jianli Yang: A Lamentation

The Western Journal is publishing the next poem by Chinese language dissident and human rights activist Jianli Yang to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the occasions of Sept. 11, 2001.

Of his poetry, Yang writes: “The primary anniversary of 9/11 occurred throughout my solitary confinement [in a Chinese prison]. My psychological well being had deteriorated below the burden of extended isolation, repeated interrogations and infinite psychological and bodily torture. I prayed and prayed to God for understanding of his objective for me and for religious power to maintain myself. I resorted to composing poems in my head and committing them to reminiscence as a method of sustaining my sanity.” – Ed. Notice

“A Lamentation”

Two large new waves of glory crashed down,
Solid so cruelly into historical past, the towering twins.
5 thousand ships, with sails full-blown,
Now scattered and thrown.
To the 4 Winds.

Civilization wept and groaned.
Greatness fell down on her knees to wish.
The pink setting Solar, all arrayed in mild,
On the again of a Swan,
Turns into Darkish Night time.

A crystal tear falls, seed upon a pillow.
The Moon grows, rising up from the ocean,
Cradles her face inside each her arms
Trying down on the world,
From her abode of peace.

An Previous Man smiles, face riddled with ripples,
Undulating, propagating, ripples on ripples…
One other 12 months’s tears, goals, and feelings
Sink into the deep,
The deep, huge ocean.

Above the froth,
A white feather flies low,
Drifts back and forth,
Then floats…

A sail,
…with out
……a ship.
