Jay-Z & Team Roc urge Feds to refuse to release prisoners for taking food from Mess Hall
Look same Jay-Z are being added to the list of celebrities who are giving a helping hand in hopes of improving the US justice system, whether it is to help support prison reform or help draw attention to injustices and corruption is facing our system. New York rapper worked with his brand, Team Roc to help overturn unjust prison sentences. Team Roc is a division of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. It focuses on raising awareness of the socio-political injustices that continue to affect the community.
Jay-Z The time now is looking for a reduced sentence for a man named Valon Vailes. Vailes is said to have reached out to the rapper last year to get him a reduced sentence, but in new court documents the federals denied it because of leftovers in prison.

Valon Vailes
According to reports, Vailes was convicted in 2007 and is serving a 20-year prison sentence for the intent to distribute more than a ton of marijuana. Team Roc lawyer Alex Spiro said Vailes met the requirements for his charity’s early release, but court documents revealed that federal prosecutors would not allow it because Vailes allegedly stole leftover chicken. from the prison corridor to his cell. Court documents also suggest that Vailes is also being criticized for simply using a set of his prison uniforms as training equipment.
Jay-Z and Team Roc feel that federal prosecutors are being unfair because Valon Vailes, now 56 years old, is a model inmate who successfully earned a GED while in prison. Sadly, he has a “mentally ill” brother at home who needs someone to take care of. Vailes’ mother took care of his brother, but she passed away in 2020.
In his letter to Jay-Z, Vailes discussed his frustrations with the justice system, more specifically, seeing corporations and individuals make billions of dollars from legalized cannabis, while he has to jail for it. Team Roc lawyer Alex Spiro wants a federal judge to reduce Vailes’ sentence while serving his sentence, and release him as soon as possible.
