According to reports, Vailes was convicted in 2007 and is serving a 20-year prison sentence for the intent to distribute more than a ton of marijuana. Team Roc lawyer Alex Spiro said Vailes met the requirements for his charity’s early release, but court documents revealed that federal prosecutors would not allow it because Vailes allegedly stole leftover chicken. from the prison corridor to his cell. Court documents also suggest that Vailes is also being criticized for simply using a set of his prison uniforms as training equipment.

Jay-Z and Team Roc feel that federal prosecutors are being unfair because Valon Vailes, now 56 years old, is a model inmate who successfully earned a GED while in prison.
