Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino possesses many talented stars with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. After Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League aired on Supreme +, CBS Sports analyst Jamie Carragher says the presence of those stars is why Pochettino should make the controversial jump from PSG to Manchester United.
Carragher and fellow analyst Thierry Henry have explained why the defensive defects of the PSG forward trio are holding Pochettino back.
“Pochettino has to get out of the club,” said the great 43-year-old Liverpool man. “If he gets the chance to go to Manchester United. I’ll leave tomorrow, and it’s because of those three stars.”
While Henry insists PSG’s attacking trio “isn’t the problem”, the former Barcelona and Arsenal legend points out that the stars’ lack of interest in facing the ball in defence has left the club set is “exposed”. Henry added that Pochettino could fare better elsewhere in Europe such as former PSG coaches Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel, who now manage Villareal and Chelsea, respectively.
Henry said: “Everybody who left Paris Saint-Germain went on to win in Europe.
Pochettino, 49 years old, has is closely associated with the management position of Manchester United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked. PSG could also allow him to take over, as they have Zinedine Zidane in their sights as a more suitable potential in the future.
But despite the rumors, Pochettino before loss said he was “happy in Paris” and have no plans to leave anytime soon.
“I know the city well both as a player and as a coach, I have always lived in such circumstances,” said Pochettino. “Things happen and it’s not my responsibility. What I would say if you asked me is I’m happy to be in Paris
If Pochettino proves disgruntled and leaves for Old Trafford, he could face the same defensive problems he has now.
“We’ve just watched Paris Saint-Germain twice against Man City, a team at their level who beat them in two games because they weren’t getting help defensively,” Carragher said. “Look at Manchester United’s defensive record this season. I’m not just saying it’s because of Ronaldo; it’s about the whole team, the organization, all over the place. But what if you don’t have 11 fighting men? for each other, intense, like we see other top teams do, it’s a hit.”
Former Manchester United player Michael Carrick currently serves as the team’s manager, but the club are looking for outside candidates for the temporary job. The Independent reports that Pochettino could take over as manager at the end of the season.
