Felix Leiter actor Jeffrey Wright, who returns in the upcoming James Bond film No Time to Die, said he was surprised not to be in Skyfall or Specter.
James Bond actor Felix Leiter, Jeffrey Wright, who returns There’s no time to die, saying that he”surprise“He didn’t participate Skyfall or Spectre. 007’s friend and CIA contact was first introduced in Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale and continue to appear throughout the year books by author James Bond. He made his film debut in 1962 Doctor no? with Jack Lord in the role.
While Leiter would never be a major character in the first James Bond films, he will be brought back multiple times with multiple actors taking on the character. Cec Linder playing Leiter in 1964 Golden Fingers, then gave way to Rik Van Nutter for 1965 Thunderball. Leiter reappeared in 1971 Diamonds are eternal with Norman Burton in the role. David Hedison then took over in 1973 Live and let die, the only time Leiter appears in Roger Moore directs Bond movies. Leiter will return to the Timothy Dalton era in 1987 Day life with John Terry in the role, and again for 1989 License to kill with Hedison being re-engaged (making him the first actor to play Leiter twice). License to kill famously witnessed Leiter being gored by a shark during torture, prompting Bond to seek revenge. The character would go missing again in Pierce Brosnan’s time but returned with all limbs intact in 2006. Casino Royale with Wright the first of three appearances.
Wright will of course make a second appearance as Leiter in 2008 Level of comfort and it will be his third turn in the near future There’s no time to die. Between those films, two Bond films were made without Wright as Leiter, and the actor admits he was surprised he didn’t receive an offer to return. Skyfall or The spectre. Talk to Total Film (via Game), Wright said: “The surprise for me was not being called in the previous two times!“He admitted,”But it gives more weight to Felix’s appearance if we don’t see him too often. “
Wright also talks about Leiter’s relationship with James Bond, which is echoed very early in the story There’s no time to die, when the movie starts with old friends caught in Jamaica five years after the Leiter-less event of The spectre. “We wanted to establish the core of their relationship, which is brotherhood,” Wright explained. Things didn’t go as normal for long, however, when Leiter soon told 007 that Specter was back in action, prompting the supposed retired agent to get back into action one last time.
Obviously it’s no surprise that There’s no time to die begins with Bond being sent back into the spy world, as there will be no other movies. And of course it makes sense that Leiter would be the one sent to bring Bond back into the game, as he is arguably the only person in the world that Bond trusts more than anyone else. Having Wright return as the last Bond of the Craig era is also true on a casting level given the integral role he played in the first two films. The James Bond Series may not need Leiter for Skyfall and The spectre but it seems he plays an important role in There’s no time to die. Of course, it’s great to see Wright in anything, as he’s one of the most commanding actors in film and television at the moment.
