I Witnessed a Murder in Jail—Now I’m Pressing the FBI to Investigate
I’ve seen a lot working as a jail nurse—injuries, desperation, and the heavy weight of confinement—but nothing prepared me for what I believe was a murder happening right before my eyes. And I can’t stay silent about it.
On a night I’ll never forget, I was doing my usual rounds when I witnessed something that shook me to my core. A detainee—someone I had seen many times, someone who trusted me—was being restrained by officers in a way that went far beyond protocol. What was supposed to be a routine intervention quickly escalated into brutality. Moments later, that detainee was dead.
I felt helpless, heart pounding, as I watched it unfold. The official story labeled it an “in-custody death.” But I know what I saw. I saw force used with no regard for life. I saw a person struggle to breathe. I saw a fatal outcome that could have been avoided.
Since then, I’ve pressed local authorities, written statements, and now I’m calling on the FBI to step in. This wasn’t just a medical emergency—it was a human rights violation. And someone needs to be held accountable.
People may say, “Just do your job and stay quiet.” But how could I live with myself knowing I stood by and said nothing? I became a nurse to save lives, not to be a silent witness to injustice.
I know taking this step is risky. But if we don’t speak out when we see something wrong, the system will never change. I’m choosing courage over comfort. I’m speaking not just for that one life lost, but for every detainee who deserves dignity—even behind bars.
Now, I’m waiting. Watching. Hoping the FBI does what’s right.
