The wife of a legendary music executive was murdered at her Los Angeles home following a home break-in on Tuesday.
Jacqueline Avant, 81, was shot around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and authorities declared her dead when she was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound, according to a report. report.
Jacqueline married Clarence Avant in 1967 and the couple had two children, Nicole and Alexander.
Clarence Avant was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He was also the subject of a documentary called Black Godfather, which outlines the producer’s long musical career and his political influence. Jacqueline stars in the documentary directed by Nicole, the couple’s daughter. Avant has worked with a wide range of musicians including Louis Armstrong, Bill Withers and Babyface.
Family friend Danny J. Bakewell, Sr. said Clarence Avant is grieving and resting after the horrific incident.
No words can describe the pain and devastation we feel this morning over the senseless death of our beloved friend/family member, Mrs. Jackie Avant. Her brutal murder was not only a loss for her entire family but also a terrible loss for everyone who met her. I can’t describe how painful it is to lose someone as beautiful as Jackie Avant. For her to be killed in such a senseless way was incomprehensible. There aren’t 2 people who are kinder and more generous than Clarence and Jackie and it is unconscionable to let their homes and lives be violated in such a violent manner. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their children as we all work together to get through this most difficult time.
Initial reports said multiple shots were fired at the mansion and showed a shattered glass sliding door inside the home.
Condolences quickly poured in after the tragedy.

Bass said in a statement: “I am deeply saddened by the news this morning of the tragic and shocking death of Jacqueline Avant. “Mrs. Avant has been a force of compassion and empowerment locally and nationally for decades, and a role model in service and giving back to those who need it most.”
