J Balvin says ‘I’m not of Latin African descent’ after winning ‘African Latin Artist of the Year’ award, Africa Entertainment Awards renames category to ‘Best Latin Artist of the Year’

The Africa Entertainment Awards they seem to be working overtime as they explain the meaning behind the ‘Afro-Latino Artist of the Year’ Award and why the award goes to white Latinos.

The Africa Entertainment Awards USA (AEA) takes the hot seat to award Colombian singer/rapper J Balvin, 36 years old, ‘Afro-Latino Artist of the Year.’

After his latest achievement, J Balvin saw his Instagram stories and shared that, despite the award’s category, he is not Afro-Latino. Rapper ‘In Da Getto’ re-shared a video of By AEA the president spoke about his controversial victory and captioned the post,

“I am not Afro-Latino, but thank you for giving me a place in the contribution of Afrobeat music and entertainment.”

By AEA prescient released a statement and video to the music awards’ official US Instagram page. In part, he said, this category is,

“For those who have contributed to African culture [and] not based on your race [but] based on your contribution to African culture. ”

He added,

“Our catalog is not based on color. Again, it is based on the contributions of these artists who are contributing to African culture. Yes, you can be black Latino and be nominated. Just like you can be white Latino and be nominated. Like we have black and white Africans. You know, that’s how we see it. ”

In video captions, AEA shared that the category had been renamed ‘Best Latin Artist of the Year.’

“After listening to the interest of the audience, we have decided to keep the purpose of the award but change the name to Best Latin Artist of the Year.”
