Itch.io crashes NFT amid backpedaling
Platform indie game itch.io is the latest game company to publicly denounce sales and advertising non-fungible token (NFT).
In a series of tweets, itch.io made its position clear on the NFT. The platform says it does not support the use of NFTs in any way, and has had some harsh words for supporters of the new digital collections.
“If you think they are legitimately useful for anything other than creator exploitation, financial fraud, and the destruction of the planet,[n] we ask that [you] reevaluate your life choices,” itch.io said in a tweet.
Itch.io continues to derive other companies to support the sale of NFTs. Platform Independents do not consider NFTs a viable or fair means of supporting creators as many companies claim they do.
“Also [fuck] any company that says they support creators and also endorses NFT in any way,” says itch.io. “They care only about their own profits and the opportunity to be rich more than anyone else.”
Finally, itch.io ended its mini-series by asking NFTs advocates a question: “How can you be so dense?”
Itch.io’s public denunciation of NFTs follows a chain of events that has resulted in several companies and individuals abandoning their relationships with NFTs. Most recent, Team17 is supported on the MetaWorms NFT platform plan after several developers under its publish branch express their distaste. Other notable back-walkers include voice actor Troy Baker give up his support for VoiceVerseNFT, as well as EA temper its NFT stance.
