Italy advanced to the quarterfinals thanks to two wins in two group stage matches, 2-1 wins over the US and Colombia. Both of their singles matches were played by Lorenzo Sonego and Jannik Sinner with Sinner winning both games in consecutive sets while Lorenzo dropped once. Italy have lost both of their doubles matches so far.

Croatia continued their good streak in the Davis Cup as they advanced to another quarter-final. The Croatians won 3-0 against Australia with just Marin Cilic dropped one set while the other two were won in straight sets. Next was the Hungarians, who were beaten 2-1 with Cilic losing the singles match while the pair Nikola Metic and Mate Pavic won both of their doubles matches.

While Italy are waiting for a second after losing title won in 1976, their youth brigade is seen as going to guide them to another while the Croatian, who final win in 2018 it’s their second title, have experience on the side and can use it to knock the Italian out in front of their home fans.
