It took fans two years to reverse engineer Ocarina of time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is considered one of the greatest games of the N64 era, and some fans have been working on their own version.

For those who grew up in the era of the Nintendo 64, there are some notable titles that will always be remembered. Goldeneye 64, Mario Kart, Mario 64, and of course, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. According to a recent report, a community of developers called the Zelda Reverse Engineering Team, or ZRET, has done just that, they’ve reverse engineered the N64 classic. Ocarina of Time. The team has been working on the project for almost two years, with a chart on the developer’s website showing that the reproduction is now just over 98% complete.

However, according to the report, ZRET rebuilt the entire game from scratch, allegedly without using any of Nintendo’s copyrighted assets, including graphics and sound. Using modern programming languages, the community-based team was able to “carefully” recreate all the content without using any of the leaked content.

The same goes for a fan-made project a few years ago. In this case modders can reverse engineer classic Super Mario 64 back in 2019. At the time of writing, it looks like this project is still available for download. This means Zelda 64 “Analysis” may not be taken down by Nintendo once the project is 100% complete. In any case, let’s just hope that ZRET can complete the entertainment and deliver for the fans.

With players continue to challenge themselves in Ocarina of Time, the game is still proving popular, especially among older gamers who still remember the original. The fact that ZRET spent almost two years rebuilding the game from the ground up is a testament to how beloved this entrance is in the age-old franchise.
