It Shouldn’t Shock You That Afghanistan Collapsed So Rapidly

“The truth that every part collapsed so rapidly to me vindicates Biden’s choice,” Jeet Heer says on this week’s second episode of The New Irregular.

“When you learn the Afghanistan Papers, none of what’s occurring is stunning. One of many large issues that comes out of [the story] is the weak point of the Afghan authorities, which can be a pumpkin authorities,” he tells Molly Jong-Quick and Jesse Cannon. “Prefer it’s like a bunch of men with a phony baloney jobs and workplaces and large sacks of cash.”

Heer, a columnist for The Nation and author of the e-newsletter The Time of Monsters, says that the blame for the battle and its ignominious finish rests not simply with Joe Biden however with a complete era of American presidents.
