Is Walrein good at Pokemon GO and what is its best Moveset?

January 2022 Pokemon GO Community Day has arrived and the focal point is none other than Speal. As always, this leaves players questioning whether its final evolution, Walrein, has a better set of moves and whether it’s any good.

While each Community Day Pokemon has its own special move, they generally fail to improve on Pokemon with the most recent example being a handful of Eevee evolutions in August.

However, while some may not be great, others are very good – Let’s check which of the two Walrein falls into.

Is Walrein good in Pokemon GO?

With the new Community Day moves, it’s safe to say that Walrein is even better as the Ice Break Pokemon becomes an immediate threat in Pokemon GO’s PVP mode.

Based on PVPoke, it is immediately promoted to be the 5th best Pokemon in the entire Great Alliance, or 4th if it’s an unrefined Shadow Pokemon. It beat out nearly all of the best Pokemon of the League including Altaria, Skarmory, Nidoqueen, Stunfisk, and Azumarill.

It’s no less threatening in the Ultra League, taking 4th and 5th places depending on whether it’s a Shadow Pokemon or not. This time, it beat the likes of Empoleon, Giratina, Stunfisk, Umbreon and Swampert.

It’s one of the rare Pokemon involved in all three PVP metas, ranking 15th (no shadow) in the Ultra League, as long as it’s powered by XL Candy. This is largely due to the abundance of Dragon-type Pokemon in the league, with major victories coming to Dragonite, Yveltal, Togekiss, Giratina, Gyarados and more.
