Is My Hero Academia Heroes Rising Canon?

My Hero Academy

My Hero Academia is one of the most popular anime series of the past decade, has run for 5 seasons so far and inspired 3 movies. Each movie related to the series tells a story outside of the events of the show but uses the universe and its established characters.

The second film in the franchise, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising launched in 2019, and its events take place after the Meta Liberation Army arc from the manga. The film’s success has seen a direct sequel hit theaters in late 2021.

Fans may wonder if the film and its events are the norm for the whole My Hero Academia story. Well, it’s not that simple.

Is My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising canon?

My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising is the norm for anime, but it’s not the rule for manga series. That’s because it wasn’t written by Kohei Horikoshi, the original creator of the franchise.

The series was produced by Bones Animation Studio and supervised by Horikoshi himself, but its events are not considered standard for the manga’s plot.

Even without Horikoshi’s scriptwriting, Bones worked on the series years before the film, which is a factor in the impressive quality and homely feel of the anime.

Those who have seen the film will know that the events of the film do not depend much on the surrounding events taking place in the film and fortunately this means that it can be enjoyed like a movie. on its own or in a preview part of the franchise.

The next movie in the series My Hero Academya: Mission of World Heroes will launch on August 6 and its events, similar to those of Hero Rises, would not be considered a classic for the anime itself. You can watch the movie in theaters when it drops next month.
