“I love underwear as it is very personal and often a hidden gem that is largely a private experience. In a world that becomes more transparent every day, there is a beautiful mystery to be found in lingerie,” Van Herpen wrote in an email, adding that her haute couture work has done with similar ideals of transparency and “subtle textures that appear flat on the skin.”
Van Herpen’s concept of skin makeup combined with her love of nature led to a botanical theme for the collection to express the “organic femininity” she imagined.
Aubade brand and product director Samar Vignals called the collaboration “an unexpected and exciting encounter”, bringing with it a sense of “pioneering innovation and a very futuristic vision of fashion”. has fueled the growth of the 60-year-old brand.
