iPhone Photos Can’t download photo or video editing

How to fix iPhone loading a higher quality version of this photo or video

By default, iPhone is set to offload high-quality photos and videos to iCloud storage. Once they’re uploaded, low-quality thumbnails will be kept and the original photos deleted to save storage space. When the user opens the photo, a high-quality version is downloaded and can be viewed in the fidelity of the original image. However, sometimes the phone cannot load higher quality videos or photos for one reason or another.

When an iPhone or iPad shows that it can’t load photos or videos, it usually means it can’t access a higher-quality version of the media found on iCloud. There are several reasons why this can happen that we will explore:

• Storage is full
• iPhone or iPad is not connected to the network
• Device needs to be restarted

Storage is full

Assume the user’s phone memory is full. In that case, there will be no space to download the higher quality images and videos they are trying to access. People experiencing this error should see if they have enough free space by checking the General Internal Storage settings.

iPhone or iPad is not connected to the network

It makes sense that if an iPhone or iPad doesn’t have Internet access, they can’t download photos or videos from iCloud. Make sure the device is connected to the network. If using mobile data, make sure Photos app can use mobile data for downloads in settings.

Device needs to be restarted

Sometimes the only thing users need to do to resolve an error like this is to restart their device. Running power on an iPhone or iPad can eliminate this seemingly random error from happening again.

iCloud is down

This happens rarely, but sometimes the iCloud server fails. If all other services are working properly on the device, check if iCloud is currently down. If the website goes offline, your iPhone or iPad won’t be able to access the server that stores the high-quality photos or videos for download.

Device needs to be updated

Sometimes operating system updates change the way certain apps work. For example, it’s possible that a recent update changes the way your iPhone or iPad connects to the iCloud Photos server, in which case iOS or iPadOS needs to be updated to restore that functionality.
