Invictus Gaming bids farewell to Kaka, signs Fade from EHOME

Even after reorganizing the organization during last season, iG is making a big change to Dota 2 by replacing the old captain Kaka with Fade.

This is the first roster move iG has made since signing Kaka in September 2019 after he helped lead Keen Gaming to TI9. It’s a bit of a surprise considering how successful the team has been in the last year.

IG is one of the featured teams in early 2021 Dota The Pro Circuit, getting through the closed qualifiers, dominated the first season of the China regional league, and then swept upstream to sweep Evil Geniuses to win the ONE Esports Singapore Major.

The team would continue to struggle a bit mid-season before eventually recovering and finishing 4th at The International 10, taking home $2.4 million and ending the year on a relatively high note. It was iG’s first time attending TI since TI8, where the team finished with a draw in last place. This is also the closest the team has achieved an Aegis since winning it at TI2.

However, just hours before closing the roster for the DPC 2022 Winter Tour, iG announced that Kaka’s contract with the organization had expired and, after a “series of friendly discussions”, he would be left to explore freelance company.

“Over the past two years, Kaka has been a great captain leading the growth of our young iG Dota team,” iG said. “In the moment of saying goodbye, all the stories of our journey together seem like yesterday. It was a wild ride with all its hardships, trials and happiness. ”

To replace the outgoing captain, iG has acquired another veteran support player with a lot of experience — Fade.

Last year Fade played in an EHOME team that gathered a lot of top Chinese people Dota talent in the massive roster shuffle that took place near the end of 2020 before DPC’s return in 2021. However, the roster fell short of expectations during the regular season and was unable to secure a spot at TI10 , lost to Elephants in the finals of the China regional qualifiers.

Over the past few months, EHOME has completely scrapped its roster, giving iG the opportunity to get Fade from their old team’s dormant roster when it became clear that Kaka was leaving.

With this move, iG has bolstered its roster with flyfly, Emo, JT and Oli for the upcoming 2022 DPC season, while Kaka has remained a popular free agent in the waning hours before the roster Official for the Winter Tour.
