The Serie A champions are in need of reinforcements at full-back and have long been linked with a move for Spaniard Bellerin, who is poised for a new challenge from the north. London after a decade at the club.
Telles, who only arrived at Old Trafford last summer, has been surprisingly linked with a move after just a year and Inter has emerged as a potential destination.
Roma boss Jose Mourinho is also said to be very interested in the Brazilian left-back, with both Giallorossi and Inter both keen to sign Telles on an initial loan deal.
Marotta has now confirmed that the 28-year-old former Porto star is the player they are looking for, although still decrying Inter’s pursuit of both the United and Bellerin defender.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia on Saturday, he said: ‘Hector Bellerin is a player that we are watching, but I cannot say more.
‘Alex told? I can’t rule this out but we’re making plans and we’ll see. We are currently planning to keep our best players after the sale [Achraf] Hakimi. ‘
United are said to be reluctant to let Telles go, although that stance could change if they win the £18m deal for Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.
The right-back is very capable of playing on the left, having done so for England at Euro 2020 in their opening group game, and is seen as a useful backup for the excellent Luke Shaw.
Telles himself has suggested he wants to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford, telling United Daily: ‘I’m really happy to be back here. It’s a pleasure to be at Manchester United entering my second season.
‘Last season we came very close to winning titles, so we go into the next season with a lot of desire and I really want to show my work and value here. club.’
However, Arsenal are more open to selling Bellerin, even though they are paying a fee of £15m; Should Inter bid their asking price, the Gunners have been looking for a new right-back and have been linked with Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey.
