Don’t judge a book by its cover – or by its fur and fur.
By Netflix wild new dating show”Sexy beasts,” Fourth, hide sexy singles under tons of makeup and prosthetics, disguising their looks to test if they can make a lasting relationship based solely on personality.
“Someone of [appearance is] the first thing you see. So it’s clear that everyone is based solely on looks to begin with. That’s probably where I went wrong,” Martha, a beggar disguised as a deer, told The Post.
“Character is a big thing, compared to it is also very important. So that’s why I thought it would be good to do the show.”
Each half-hour episode of “Sexy Beasts” features a date with three different potential love interests, who are identified by their real names and masquerade as creatures, for example, Martha the Deer or Emma the Demon. The central waiter – who also wears an elaborate outfit reminiscent of “The Masked Singer” – Eliminate one of their three picks after the first round of dates, then choose between the remaining two contestants after another rendezvous.
Everyone is “unmasked” after being eliminated, to show what they really look like.
“In this show, everyone looks as weird as possible”, comedian Rob Delaney – the narrator of “Sexy Beasts” – said in the introduction. “So you can love someone based solely on character? And do you still feel the same when you see their real faces? Welcome to the weirdest date ever! “
Martha is a 22-year-old event planner from Southampton, England, who appeared as one of the picks in the episode where “Kelechi Rooster” was the central host. Kelechi is a pharmacy student from Knoxville, Tennessee, and as his name suggests, his makeup includes feathers and a comb.
Martha admitted that the animal disguise was “distracting”.
“Like, you’re not talking to a person, you’re talking to a rooster. You’re looking at the details in the mask, in everything… But we had fun conversations,” she said.
Martha is 5 feet 11 years old, and admits that her “type” is typical “tall, black, and handsome.” On screen, Kelechi’s outfit doesn’t hide the fact that at least one of those boxes has been checked – he’s tall. But Martha says it won’t be a problem for her if he doesn’t.
“I usually go with taller people because I like to wear heels, but I would go for shorter people. I keep trying to figure out what he looks like… But we get along really well, so I’m not too worried.”
For Emma, a 22-year-old model from New York, dressing up as a demon is a release.
“For me personally, I have gained a lot more confidence with my mask. I don’t know if that’s what everyone I’ve dated has gone through, but I feel a lot more comfortable expressing my personality. It definitely helped us get to know each other more deeply and talk about things we wouldn’t normally say on a first or second date,” she said.
For example, on a casual first date without wild makeup, she would discuss “basics” like work and hobbies, but in “Sexy Beasts” she feels Feel free to talk about your relationship goals.
“What amazes me is how fun and easy dating can be when you let your guard down,” she says.
