Regina Ashley, director of unemployment insurance and workforce solutions at the state’s Department of Workforce Development, said in a press conference that the agency has issued 25,000 payments totaling more than $33 million on Friday, and thousands more are expected to be made in the coming days.
These are the first payments made since mid-June and will be effective back to the business week ending June 25.
More than a month later, they enter a legal battle over the state’s participation in federal programs to expand unemployment benefits during the pandemic.
