Indiana restarts federal unemployment benefit payments to workers affected by COVID pandemic following court order

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana has continued to pay $300 in federal unemployment to workers impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, after Court order it to do so.

Regina Ashley, director of unemployment insurance and workforce solutions at the state’s Department of Workforce Development, said in a press conference that the agency has issued 25,000 payments totaling more than $33 million on Friday, and thousands more are expected to be made in the coming days.

These are the first payments made since mid-June and will be effective back to the business week ending June 25.

More than a month later, they enter a legal battle over the state’s participation in federal programs to expand unemployment benefits during the pandemic.
