A surprising proportion of coronavirus patients admitted to UK hospitals – up to 40% – are fully vaccinated.
“In terms of the number of people hospitalized who have received the dual vaccine, we know that around 60% of people are hospitalized with COVID,” Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK government’s chief scientific adviser, said in a survey Downing Street press conference.
“We predict that more than 1,000 people a day will be hospitalized with coronavirus because of the increase in infections. But the rate should be lower than before because of the protective effect of vaccination. “
Now, Vallance later corrected that 60% statistic in a tweet, saying, “About 60% of covid hospitalizations are not from dual-vaccinated people, rather than 60% of hospitalizations from covid currently from unvaccinated people.”
Correcting a statistic that I made in a press conference today, July 19. About 60% of covid hospitalizations are not from dual-vaccinated people, instead of 60% of covid hospitalizations currently from unvaccinated people.

The wording of Vallance’s tweet makes his meaning a bit unclear, although if 60% of hospitalizations are from unvaccinated people, 40% of hospitalizations are from patients who have been vaccinated. partially or fully vaccinated.
Despite a 20-point gap between 60% and 40%, the latter still represents a staggering number of people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 but still end up hospitalized due to the disease.
And according to Sky News, most regions in the UK now have many Patients infected with COVID than at any time since mid-March.
Do you believe the COVID vaccine is effective?
Yes: 11% (1 Vote)
No: 89% (8 Votes)
In fact, the increase in the number of cases of imitation was witnessed more than four months ago.
Although the rate Candlestick lower when it comes to the “protective effect” of vaccination, the reality tells a much different story.
But Vallance’s explanation is different from mine – and which many others will theorize as well.
Based on Yahoo News UK, Vallance said that because a larger percentage of the population was stabbed twice, “it [is] It is ‘inevitable’ that the proportion of people hospitalized with both stab wounds will increase. “
To break that down into (hopefully) simpler terms, consider sampling a group of 10 fully vaccinated people versus a separate group of 100 fully vaccinated people.
Now, imagine three people infected with COVID in the smaller group and ten infected in the larger group.
Of course, the larger group will have more COVID cases because it contains more people.
Applying this to Vallance’s logic is not too difficult. As the number of fully vaccinated residents increases across the UK, so will the number of people going to hospital (more specifically those who are fully vaccinated).
But the argument is also rife with holes.
First, why is the number of COVID patients in hospitals increasing as vaccines become spreading more and more?
Why are overall infections increasing regardless of vaccination status?
The Yahoo UK report adds that UK GovernmentIts latest figures show that “742 people have been hospitalized with COVID. That means the total received over the past seven days is 4,317. “
That’s a 40% increase from last week.
As reported by Sky News, Vallance said he is not surprised by the number of infections since “[COVID] vaccines are not 100 percent effective.” I admit it much, but I’m also curious about how These vaccines really work.
United States, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were approximately 94% effective in preventing hospitalization for COVID-related symptoms or post-COVID side effects.
However, the organization’s website, which discusses the topic, acknowledges that, while clinical trials tend to show high effectiveness rates for both, “assess the effectiveness of vaccines.” for severe outcomes in real-life settings and in high-risk populations, including older adults, is needed.”
In this case, however, the reality for these two “most effective” predictive vaccines is much different than the CDC presents. And it makes them look horribly inefficient.
As Americans, it’s safe to assume that we’re most familiar with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and we still hear of many people being fully vaccinated. contracted COVID in the United States also.
But I digress.
How long will it be before we think of coronavirus the same way we think of polio or chickenpox?
The traditional Varicella vaccine was released in 1995 change Chickenpox ranges from one of the most common childhood illnesses to a much less common one. In fact, as someone born in the late 1990s, I have never seen a case of chickenpox in person.
And, as for polio? Following successful vaccination campaigns that began in the 1950s, the United States has been free of the polio virus since 1979, according to CDC, and of Great Britain national health service says a case has not been reported in the UK since the mid-1980s (this is why I am not opposed to traditional vaccines).
Still technology in the COVID vaccine is as novel as the coronavirus itself, and we have little room to talk about how effective – or not – this technology will last for a long time.
Imagine if 4 out of 10 people hospitalized with COVID in the US were vaccinated and that, even though vaccines don’t stop pushing, cases are increasing.
That’s what’s happening to our UK friends, and it’s not inspiring vaccine confidence anywhere.
UPDATE, July 19, 2021: This article, and its title, originally cited an inaccurate statistic shared by Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK government’s chief scientific adviser, during a press conference. Vallance claims 60% of coronavirus patients hospitalized in the UK are fully vaccinated.
In fact, as Vallance later noted on Twitter, “60% of covid hospitalizations are now from unvaccinated people.” We have updated our article and title to reflect this new information.
