In Boise’s booming real estate market, home ownership is a dividing line

More and more buyers are seeing it as well, and now shortly after the public listing, two investors have flocked to the home in Star with their real estate agent. Carl and Vickie Foster quit their CPA business in Portland, Ore., moved to Idaho for its beauty and affordability in 2014, and started buying real estate near where their children and grandchildren live. During the pandemic, they saw their equity grow each month, and they used some of that new wealth to buy more homes. They sold a home in Arizona and then used the proceeds to buy two more homes. They sold another and bought two more, selling and buying more, until they eventually amassed 21 homes across six states. They own farms in Oregon, homes in suburban Idaho, and a 17th-floor penthouse in downtown Minneapolis. They have bought half a dozen properties since the pandemic began, and now they hope to buy at least one more before the end of the week.
