Hulu’s ‘Chats With Friends’ Teases More Than Just Talking

For a program called Chat with friendsThe upcoming Hulu series teases more of what’s to come than simply talking to people who might not be just friends in the streaming service’s first trailer.

The series is by the same award-winning team Normal person and revolves around Alison Oliver’s Frances, a 21-year-old college student, as she navigates a series of relationships. It’s not all that fun and game, though, as each friendship – or something deeper – forces her to face her own hurts for the first time.

The story revolves around the relationship between four people, Frances, her best friend Bobbi, and married couple Melissa and Nick, and also stars Joe Alwyn, Sasha Lane, and Jemima Kirke.

The series is based on a 2017 novel of the same name by Sally Rooney, who also wrote the main novel on it Normal person based.

Book Chat with friendsit was Rooney’s debut, won two awards in 2018, Dylan TRIEDomas prize and The Folio Award.

Rooney’s previous Hulu version, 2020 Normal person, was a critical and commercial success on the streaming service and on BBC Three, so it’s no wonder the producers of Element Pictures for BBC Three and Hulu decided to green-light a novel Her other theory. Like that show, Chat with friends also set in Ireland, Rooney’s hometown.

Chat with friends premieres on Hulu in May.
