How to win the tournaments

Tournament win in Ooblets is not a very distant dream, as it may at first appear. Granted, it’s an uphill battle. Teams of one, two, and three compete against the players. These Ooblets come from all over the world and can be powerful creatures that the player hasn’t seen and won’t see until well into the endgame.

Don’t sweat. Even inexperienced players Ooblets can come up with a winning strategy with nothing but the ooblets and resources they have in the very first area. In fact, the best team in the game for these battles is probably one that players can build and improve within the first hour of play.

Normal Tournaments

1v1 knocker
2v2 Clomper, Lumpstump
3v3 Clomper, Clomper, Lumpstump

When it comes to a small team, Clomper and Lumpstump are the go-to picks in the early game, both in and out of this tournament. In 1v1 situations, Clomper can stun the opponent for free, causing them to lose their turn.

Lumpstump comes through with hype for the player’s team and excitement for everyone else on top of the points. A team that cannot escape Clomper’s stun loses immediately. By the time they get the chance to escape, Lumpstump’s buffs and debuffs will already have the game out of reach.

Freebie Tournaments

1v1 knocker
2v2 Clomper, Lumpstump
3v3 Clomper, Clomper, Lumpstump

If this setup looks familiar to you, it should. This is identical to the normal tournaments and there is a similar philosophy. Why would the most powerful team be worse if their moves cost zero? Here they shine even brighter.

Clomper is already overpowered in normal tournaments. In this phase, making all stuns free is even stronger. Opponents don’t get a chance to move and only a Lumpstump is needed as he has all the time in the world to apply buffs and debuffs while hitting the point target.

Signatures Only Tournaments

  • Both teams can only play signature moves

battle Ooblets
1v1 lump
2v2 Clomper, Lumpstump
3v3 Clomper, Clomper, Lumpstump

There’s a slight change to the variant for Signatures Only tournaments because Clomper alone doesn’t have any moves that generate points. This results in a 1v1 dance-off that the player cannot win regardless of how long the opponent is stunned. Sub in Lumpstump for the first round.

After that, the formation is the same as in the last two tournaments. Clomper bans enemy teams while Lumpstump applies buffs and debuffs. While this may not seem overly creative, by removing enemies from the equation and not giving them a chance to play, it’s the best way to turn a profit regardless of the competition.

Ooblets is available now for PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
